We at Operation Supply Drop value our partnerships and Starbucks stands not only one of our most consistent and generous partners, but as a company clearly dedicated to our service members, veterans and their families. This post is purposely timed in an effort to shed light on global programs and initiatives after recent questions from our own community and the veteran community at large. We work closely with many public and private corporations, including numerous veteran-owned companies and are honored to align with any dedicated to our veterans through whatever means are available.
Through monetary and in-kind support, Starbucks has enabled our ability to reach more veterans and families in the communities we serve as well as have provided literally tons of coffee which we’ve directly provided to troops serving overseas and recovering here at home. In addition to Operation Supply Drop’s reach, Starbucks works with sister organizations including Team Rubicon, Mission Continues and Team RWB on support active duty service members, veterans and their families in a variety of ways:
Military Family Stores: Building on the concept of the Third Place, Starbucks has created a welcoming space in 32 stores to bring active duty military and their families together with their communities and provide the resources they need for a successful transition
Adopt A Unit: To date, Starbucks partners have adopted 25 military units around the country. Through these connections, relationships are built among partners (employees), customers, veteran service organizations and the service members they support to make lasting connections within the military community
Coffee: In the past year, Starbucks has donated over 60,000 lbs of whole bean coffee and 200,000 sticks of VIA instant coffee shipped to troops serving overseas
Starbucks Armed Forces Network: Theses 14 chapters across the country focus on the needs of their local veteran population and participate in activities that support veterans both inside and outside of Starbucks.
Starbucks Benefits: Provide 80 hours of pay and pay equity for military service and to honor military families Starbucks allow veteran partners to use the debt-free education benefit and extend it to a family member
Military Mondays: Military Mondays is a program originally created by the William & Mary Law School. It is a partnership between Starbucks and community based Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs) to provide a space where pro bono legal support and other veteran and military spouse services are offered. More than 30 stores have hosted events to provide pro bono legal services, military spouse focused services and networking events.
The Muster: In partnership with Schultz Family Foundation and JPMorgan Chase, Starbucks brought together 350 of the nation’s leading advocates to discuss the pressing issues and solutions facing our transitioning military members and their families
VSO Partnerships: Through strong partnership and friendship with a broad group of Veteran Service Organizations and Military Service Organizations, Starbucks has developed a collaborative strategy to strengthen efforts and services offered. These partnership have informed the Starbucks voice and continue to help Starbucks engage with the military and veteran community.
We’re thankful for the shared commitment of our partners and will continue work with organizations, including Starbucks, to be a proactive part of the solution when it comes to addressing the needs of the veteran community we serve.
