Sailors Operating Lone Clinic in Africa Receive OSD ‘Supply Drop’

TIMBERLAKE, NORTH CAROLINA & AUSTIN, TEXAS (March 30, 2018) /For immediate release/ — Deployed from Timberlake, North Carolina this Navy EMF operates the only clinic in the Horn of Africa. Petty Officer 3rd Class Daniel J. said, “I work with a staff of roughly 40-50 corpsman, doctors, surgeons, and various techs. We operate like a small, close-knit family, depending heavily on each other to keep our clinic afloat.”

The work in the Horn of Africa is hard. Petty Officer 3rd Class Daniel J. continued, “Our days are hot and long, but in the end we get our work done and we have enough energy to spare to go play sports, watch movies, or play video games together in our downtime. We might not see the front lines or get shot at, but it takes a certain type of grit and demeanor to be able to help those in need, especially when you are the sole naval clinic in the Horn of Africa.”

OSD was able to provide this hardworking team with a Supply Drop so they could relax and regroup in their downtime.

These troops are now enjoying games, coffee and other supplies from generous donors including Starbucks, Microsoft, Disgruntled Decks, FanDuel, GAEMS and other key OSD partners.

OSD’s “Supply Drop” program has impacted hundreds of thousands of active military personnel in scores of locations around the globe. These Sailors will return home in the early Fall as members of OSD’s Southeast Region, leading and participating in social, professional and service events within North Carolina.
