OSD Ushering in the New Year
As we come to the end of another eventful and rewarding year, we can’t help but look back at all that we accomplished over this past year, not to mention the last five. In 2010, Operation Supply Drop was just a small, one-man shop shipping out care packages to deployed units. Over the years though, OSD began to expand its reach and operation, bringing on more staff, gaining thousands of volunteers and supporters, and creating new programs to better achieve OSD’s main purpose – serving those that have served us.
A program that dates back to the foundation of the organization became a staple of OSD’s core services that it provides – the Supply Drop. For the uninitiated, an OSD Supply Drop is a crate of video themed goodies that is packaged and shipped not only to deployed service members (the original recipients of the Supply Drop) but has expanded to military hospitals, Warrior Transition Battalions, Morale Welfare, and Recreation Centers, and much, much more. With the community’s continued support, the Supply Drops have been our most successful program to date, increasing from just 1 – 2 drops a month to a whopping 38 this month! Want to see a Drop in action? Check out some of the many Supply Drop events we have on our plate for December –
12 December: Supply Drop Ft. Lewis Christmas Party (Seattle Team Supporting)
12 December: Supply Drop Yuma Christmas Party (Phoenix Team Supporting)
12 December: Supply Drop Stuttgart Christmas Party (Stuttgart Team Supporting)
Despite the popularity of the Supply Drops, we felt we needed to expand our programs
to further benefit our beloved service-members and veterans. Shortly after the introduction of the Drops, we kicked off the 8-Bit Salute program, a fun, innovative way for the gaming community to raise money in support of the troops. Needless to say, the response has been nothing short of amazing! All our magnificent supporters have helped raise over $400,000 to date! Seriously guys and gals, keep up the good work and thanks for all the support you provide. We’ve got quite a few 8 Bit Salute events over the next few weeks that we think you’d really enjoy.
1-15 December: Tactical Santa Fundraising Campaign
4-6 December: Rainbow Six Siege Community Event
11-13 December: Call of Duty Black Ops III Community Event (Fundraising for Call of Duty Endowment)
11-13 December: World of Warships Community Event
12 December: 12 Days of Giving
But we don’t stop there. This past year, we launched our biggest, most ambitious project to date, The Teams. The goal of the Teams Program is to build local groups of military, veterans, and civilians in order to promote a welcoming community where these groups of individuals can relax, have fun, and be accepted. The Teams uses gaming as a catalyst and common ground to forge lasting friendships between veterans and civilians. Teams are set up in cities and communities around the country and operate independently of one another. Our Teams are constantly hosting get togethers dubbed ‘Mandatory Fun’. Here are a few that some of the Chapters are hosting this month.
5-6 December: Playstation Experience (San Fran Team Supporting)
9 December: Phoenix Mandatory Fun (Phoenix Suns Game)
11 December: 82nd BSB Christmas Party (Fayetteville Team Supporting)

In addition to the above events, our teams are supporting Christmas party events at the following military installations.

Ft. Bragg, NC
Yuma Proving Grounds
Ft. Sam Houston, TX
Ft. Hood, TX
And last, but definitely not least, there’s the Thank You Deployments. These deployments are our way of saying thank you to our veteran community. They are targeted at providing fun and inspiration for veterans, giving them a VIP type trip to various gaming related events throughout the year. We’ve got 6 Deployments scheduled for 2016 with many more in the hopper. Here’s just a small taste of what we’ve got coming up.
16-17 January: Clash of the Carolina’s eSports Event 16 Universities & Veterans
29-31 January: PAX South
11-20 March: SXSW
22-24 April: PAX East
With 2015 coming to a close, we’ve already begun to plan for the future. Just to give you an idea of some of the fun events we have in store, we plan on hosting a Halo Community Event, World of Warships Community Event, Fat Princess Community Event, The Division Community Event, Far Cry Primal Community Event, Battleborn Community Event, and Overwatch Community Event. And these are just a small set of some of the grand ideas we’re coming up with.
This past year, and years past, have been successful thanks to the support of the community. Without the support of all the active duty, veterans, and civilian supporters, we would not be where we are today. 2016 is going to be one of the biggest years in history as we continue to move forward with our focused support of active duty and veterans.
