OSD Partners with Deployed USAF Troops to Impact Syrian Refugee Children through “Care for Kids Program”

AUSTIN, TEXAS & WASHINGTON, D.C. December 23, 2017 /For immediate release/ — OSD partners with US Air Force Major deployed to an undisclosed location near Syria leading “Care for Kids Program” during off time. The “Care for Kids Program” is providing direct support to over 250 local and refugee children with school supplies, hygiene items, clothing as well as soccer balls.

USAF Major Aaron J. led a similar effort while deployed in 2010 in support of New Horizons Panama. During this time, he collected thousands of dollars worth of school supplies, toys, sports equipment, clothes and food.

Major Aaron J. said of the current effort, “We are raising support for a few schools in the local area as well as the refugee camp that sits near our location.  Specifically, we are interested in school supplies, hygiene items (soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, wipes, etc.), and soccer balls for the children. This is a wonderful way to build relationships with our local friends and demonstrate who we are as a nation.”

“There are about 250 children that we be very excited in the near future.  Really appreciate the support.  This has been an outstanding deployment –rewarding in so many ways — but the contributions to the local populace is the capstone experience.  Couldn’t do it without you.”

OSD Executive Director and CEO, Glenn Banton, said, “We’re beyond excited to support this unique effort by our deployed service members. Seeing our service members going above and beyond their regular duty with this level of selflessness is inspiring and reflects the core values within our own community.”

OSD’s “Supply Drop” program has impacted over 150,000 active military personnel this year to troops in dozens of locations around the globe.
