OSD Northern Florida Helps Place over 800 Wreaths for Veterans in Gainesville for Annual ‘Wreaths Across America’ Event
GAINESVILLE, Florida December 17, 2017 /For immediate release/ — OSD Northern Florida participated in the national event, Wreaths Across America, on December 16th at the Forest Meadows Cemetery in Gainesville laying over 800 wreaths.
Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, the mission is to Remember, Honor and Teach by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at over 1,200 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea, and abroad.
OSD Northern Florida Team Leader, Tatum Rhodes said, “Across the country, thousands volunteered and laid wreaths on veterans grave. It was a privilege to take part in Wreaths Across America’s mission: to remember the fallen, to honor those who serve, and to teach our children the value of freedom.”
She continued, “There were around 150 volunteers present and about 1000 wreaths to lay. We decided to help lay several wreaths. Afterwards, we went out to lunch and both veteran volunteers talked about their service and their experiences. I think this entire experience gave me a better understanding of the veteran community, and made me feel a bit closer to those I volunteer with.”
