OSD Delivers Psychological and Emotional Respite for Soldiers Deployed to Gitmo

ORANGEBURG, NEW YORK & AUSTIN, TEXAS (May 7, 2018) /For immediate release/ —   US Army Soldiers from the 812th Military Police Company are Deployed from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba from Orangeburg Reserve Center in New York through the late Spring. The reserve center includes soldiers from all over the tri-state area as well as Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Spc Eric S. wrote, “So far our current deployment is going well, but a lot of first time deployers are taking it hard being away for family and loved ones. This Supply Drop will greatly help improve moral and get everyone into a happier spirits.”

“Serving under a detainee operation mission has many psychological and emotional effects on soldiers away from home. My team members and I often try to find a peace of mind in engaging in activities that foster cohesion. A Supply Drop will allow us to not only continue to build that cohesion by spending more time together, but distract us from activities that may not be deemed appropriate in this environment. It will keep soldiers out of trouble and doing things that provide mental stimulation and relief.”

These Soldier are now enjoying games, coffee and other supplies from generous donors including Starbucks, Microsoft, Disgruntled Decks, FanDuel, GAEMS and other key OSD partners.

OSD’s “Supply Drop” program has impacted hundreds of thousands of active military personnel in scores of locations around the globe. These Soldiers will return home as members of OSD’s Northeast Region, leading and participating in social, professional and service events.
