SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS & AUSTIN, TEXAS (September 5, 2018) /For immediate release/ — OSD San Antonio Chapter celebrated Labor Day weekend in style at the inaugural SA Heroes Day sponsored by Navy Federal Credit Union. Held at the SA Missions baseball game, the event honored active duty military, veterans, and first responders. OSD members took part in the National Anthem, threw out the first pitch, and provided an honorary bat boy.

The SA Missions played an incredible game. SA Heroes Day aligned with the last series of the regular season for this Missions and as an AA team. The Missions will make the transition to AAA next season. An exciting game, they managed to rally in the 7th inning putting up 4 runs for a 12-8 win over the Corpus Christi Hooks. We are almost certain the rally was a result of OSD CEO & Executive Director Glenn Banton’s rendition of Take Me Out to the Ball Game in the 7th inning stretch.

OSD was also able to provide a Family ‘Supply Drop’ to Air Force SSgt Tiara Payton from the Joint Personal Property Shipment Office-San Antonio. She and her son were thrilled to receive the Supply Drop.

The night ended with a spectacular firework show sponsored by Taco Bell. You couldn’t have asked for a better night at the ballpark. OSD San Antonio Chapter Leader Maxine Ababa said, “SA Heroes Day was great night honoring our local heroes. There was fun for all from the baseball game, to the mini-games and activities between the innings, to the beautiful fireworks show at the end. The night was a success thanks to the hard work of the small, but mighty OSD San Antonio Chapter.”

OSD’s local chapters are the backbone of our community engagement and outreach. Chapters are made up of groups of active duty members, veterans, family members and civilian supporters devoted to giving back at the community level. OSD chapters host various social, professional, and service related events each month. Social events allow members the chance to get to know one another, build meaningful relationships, and have fun as a team. The camaraderie built through these events create bonds which last a lifetime and are proven as a positive impact on mental health.
