SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS & AUSTIN, TEXAS (November 21, 2018) /For immediate release/ —   OSD Austin has survived the zombie apocalypse!

Along with more than 700 runners and spectators, OSD members had the privilege of taking part in the 2018 Austin Zombie Charge. Started in 2013, Zombie Charge is a 5k mud, obstacle, and trail race series. Runners must make their way through challenging obstacles all while trying to avoid zombies and arrive at the safe zone.

In 2016, Zombie Charge was acquired by Activeworks LLC, a veteran owned and operated sports promotion business. Recognizing they could play on the pop culture idea of a zombie apocalypse to help educate families on how to prepare and respond to disasters, the Activeworks LLC team partnered with the Red Cross to hand out disaster bags at the finish line of each race. Now, under the mantra of “be fit, be prepared,” Zombie Charge provides hundreds of participants across Texas with a race experience like no other all while raising awareness about disaster preparedness.

At OSD, we appreciate any opportunity to serve the community but our team was particularly excited to support the efforts of a fellow Veteran. OSD Austin members not only ran in the race, but they also volunteered wherever there was a need. From setup to tear down, OSD members where there to help. They also got the opportunity to connect with runners and other volunteers, sharing about the resources and opportunities available through OSD.

Sandy Reyes explained, “As a race director, I realize how much there is to do prior to the race and on race day.  The partnership with OSD this year has been phenomenal. As the only invited nonprofit, OSD’s presence was noticed by several people who really got to know the mission of the organization. We are proud to partner with OSD in the future and expand both the mission of fitness through the event and support the ongoing mission of OSD.”
