OSD Austin Feeds the Homeless for the Holidays
TEXAS & AUSTIN, TEXAS (December 21, 2018) /For immediate release/ — On December 18th, OSD joined a number of local nonprofits and businesses to help feed more than 175 people experiencing homelessness in the Austin area. OSD partnered with Easterseals of Central Texas, Samaritan Center, Restoration Ranch, Veterans Outdoor, Code IV, and ATX Realty to host the event in a parking lot near IH 35.
The event was a huge success and a true team effort. Fresh, hot meals were prepared by veteran-owned RWB’s Chow Bus, while volunteers from each organization helped serve and hand out hygiene and other personal care items. The Austin Police Department generously volunteered their time to ensure that the event was safe for everyone in attendance and an Early Intervention Service Specialist from AIDS Services of Austin stopped by to educate and help those in need.
In was an honor to work alongside so many passionate volunteers and spread a little bit of holiday cheer to some community members who needed a hand.
Scott Morrison, OSD Chief Community Office, said, “I could not be happier to join with our partner organizations to make a difference for about 175 Austin citizens that need a little love and help during the Holiday season. The turn out of volunteers and donations made all the difference in the world. Many of those who we fed also walked away with much needed personal hygiene items. I am proud of all our OSD Members and the Austin community as a whole.”
Austin Talley, OSD Chief Development Officer, continued, “We had a very successful event doing a little to help our neighbor, which included one baby and four fur kids. Next year, we will make sure we have baby formula and dog food for our furry friends. This could not have happened without all the wonderful organizations who volunteered their time and resources.”
