New OSD Partnership with Florida-based Non-Profit, Charity Nerds, Provides “Supply Drops” to Military Kids and Families

AUSTIN, TEXAS & GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA December 27, 2017 /For immediate release/ — OSD and Charity Nerds will combine efforts to grow the award-winning “Supply Drop” program to help Military Kids and Families.

The first two “Supply Drops” will be provided to deserving military families in North Carolina and in Northern Florida. The program is planned to expand from the Southeast United States to larger installations near OSD’s active chapters in Central Texas, San Diego, Seattle and Phoenix. Recipients are nominated by and selected from the local OSD community and are also often involved in community-service and military outreach activities.

Charity Nerds was founded in 2016 by Health Locklear (second from right) picture with his family

Charity Nerds was started by Heath Locklear 2016 as the answer to a challenge given to him by his parents. When we was child, he spent a significant amount of time in the hospital and his Nintendo DS is what got him through the stay. He was grateful after getting out that video games helped him tremendously and years later, he started Charity Nerds to give the same comfort he received when he was young.

John Locklear, Vice President at Charity Nerds, said, “Charity Nerds is honored to be working with Operation Supply Drop to provide video games to active duty military families. Helping military families is an important part of the Charity Nerds mission and Operation Supply Drop is providing key logistical help to make that happen.”

Glenn Banton, Executive Director and CEO, of OSD, added, “We’re excited to extend our Supply Drop program to Military families in the community and Charity Nerds is a well-matched partner to make this happen. They understand the power that gaming has in boosting mental health and the children of our recovering veterans and deployment troops deserve some fun.”
