Military Working Dog Regiment Deployed to Afghanistan Enjoying OSD Supply Drop

LEICESTERSHIRE, NORTH LUFFENHAM & AUSTIN, TEXAS (May 17, 2018) /For immediate release/ —   The Military Working Dog Regiment is deployed from St. George’s Barracks to Afghanistan. They are a small section of 3 dog handlers, 3 search dogs, and 1 attack dog. Private Jonathan M. explained, “We are responsible for searching ahead of call signs from all nations operating in the area and giving support to our troops on the ground with our attack dog.”

They have to be ready to act at a moments notice, often sleeping in the kennel lines. However, they have little to do in their downtime as they wait for their next mission.  They act as attached arms for various nations (Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and the United States) and subsequently aren’t typically included in care packages sent to deployed troops.

Private Jonathan M. continued, “We are on call to move at a moments notice 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so we often sleep at work in the kennel lines and find it hard to entertain ourselves during the day.”

OSD was happy to hook these deserving soldiers up with a ‘Supply Drop.’

These troops are now enjoying games, coffee, and other supplies from generous donors including Starbucks, Rip It Energy, Disgruntled Decks, FanDuel, GAEMS, and other key OSD partners.

OSD’s “Supply Drop” program has impacted hundreds of thousands of active military personnel in scores of locations around the globe. These Soldiers will return home in the fall, leading and participating in social, professional and service events within the United Kingdom.
