Marines Returning to Helmand Province in Afghanistan Arrive to Minimal Morale Support, OSD Turns the Tide
JACKSONVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA & AUSTIN, TEXAS (February 15, 2018) /For immediate release/ — Task Force Southwest Marines are currently deployed to Helmand Province in Afghanistan from Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina. They’re due to return home in late 2018 after spending the prior year training Afghan security forces.
USMC SGT Scott S. wrote, “After the withdrawal of troops from Helmand Province in 2014, very little was left behind for use. Now that we are back in the country, we have very limited items to use and would like a Supply Drop to be utilized throughout the Task Force to keep morale up.”
After following up, Scott wrote back, “The Supply Drop was greatly appreciated and we were shocked with what you sent us. We have used the items a lot!”
OSD’s “Supply Drop” program has impacted hundreds of thousands of active military personnel in scores of locations around the globe. This unit will return home in the fall as members of OSD’s Southeast Region, leading and participating in social, professional and service events in and around Jacksonville, North Carolina and along the coast.
