ST LOUIS, MISSOURI & AUSTIN, TEXAS (September 15, 2018) /For immediate release/ — Over Labor Day, OSD joined in the first annual VetFestLive presented by My Silver Boots LLC. The idea of Mark Green, a retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel with 34 years of service, author, and speaker, VetFestLive celebrated and honored veterans and their families.
A jam-packed weekend, VetFestLive attendees enjoyed the inaugural WARRIOR’S CODE 001 Golf Tournament, the VetFestLive music festival, world-class bbq, autograph sessions with local sports legends, a Harley-Davidson giveaway, and more. Those in attendance also had the chance to connect with fellow veterans, veteran business owners, and community non-profit partners.
Mark Green explained, “So what is the big deal about a golf tournament with a little music? Nothing really. But when you add in a movement to build resilience and help veterans transition better after service, it takes on a message many say they will support but few do.”
Through OSD’s ‘Thank You Deployment’ program, OSD was able to provide a number of veterans and their families access to this festival at no cost as well as to additional local experiences.
In an effort to continue to support Veterans and their families, net proceeds of VetFestLive will benefit OSD and several other nonprofits providing support to the military community. We look forward to seeing this event grow and evolve in the coming years!
Additionally, over 2,000 Mark’s books STEP OUT, STEP UP: Lessons Learned from a Lifetime of Transitions and Military Service and WARRIOR’S CODE 001: 7 Vital Steps to Resiliency will be provided via the OSD Boots to Books program and through local Chapters around the US.

OSD’s local chapters are the backbone of our community engagement and outreach. Chapters are made up of groups of active duty members, veterans, family members and civilian supporters devoted to giving back at the community level. OSD chapters host various social, professional, and service related events each month. Social events allow members the chance to get to know one another, build meaningful relationships, and have fun as a team. The camaraderie built through these events create bonds which last a lifetime and are proven as a positive impact on mental health.
