Chicagoland Microsoft Stores Join Forces to Support OSD Community Outreach with Army Recruiting Office in Rockford, Illinois

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS & ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS (December 7, 2017) /For immediate release/ — Microsoft Stores in Oakbrook and Schlamburg join forces to jump start new OSD community outreach effort with the Army Recruiting Office in Rockford, Illinois. The recruiting office will serve as a location for local youth to come together on select nights to play video games and hang out.

Megan Wright, Community Development Specialist at the Oak Brook location, stated, “Microsoft stores in the Chicago area have partnered with OSD this holiday season to ensure that after school programs have sufficient gaming supplies. Our gaming community has a big focus on engaging with students in fun, meaningful ways and OSD has been a fantastic partner in making this happen. We look forward to the events and programming in the coming year.”

The effort in Rockford is spearheaded by SSG Trent Maner, a long-time OSD volunteer. SSG Maner first met OSD ahead of a deployment to Afghanistan in 2014-15 with 3d Cavalry from Fort Hood, Texas.

Upon returning home, Maner struck up a friendship with OSD Executive Director & CEO, Glenn Banton where together they continued supporting the unit’s families and communities around Fort Hood and Austin, Texas. When SSG Maner recently moved to Rockford, it was only natural that the relationship and call to serve would continue.

OSD’s chapter-based “Teams” program brings the military community together through social, service and professional events and outings in dozens of cities around the globe. To date, over 50,000 community members have bonded through hundreds of experiences.
