Soldiers of the 719th Medical Detachment Veterinary Services (MDVS) are deployed from Fort Sheridan Reserve Center in Illinois to Kuwait. Comprised of a veterinarian, vet tech, and 10 dog teams – these Soldiers work hard day in and day out under stressful conditions.
Vet Tech SPC Caitlin H. explained, “The Captain and I cover down on 17 dogs and two bases between us. Sometimes it can be overwhelming or stressful. We have to deal with everything from medical emergencies to everyday vet care. Also, we have to put down stray animals properly and that can take a mental toll. As for the handlers, they work 12 hour days in all weather conditions. We could all use a Supply Drop.”
These soldiers were in need of a break and something to take their mind off their work. An OSD Supply Drop was a great way to boost morale amongst the unit.
OSD’s “Supply Drop” program has impacted hundreds of thousands of active military personnel in scores of locations around the globe. These Soldiers will return home in the Summer as members of OSD’s Midwest Region, leading and participating in social, professional and service events within Illinois.
