3rd Calvary Regiment Deployed to Remote Area of Iraq Receives OSD Supply Drop

KILLEEN, TEXAS & AUSTIN, TEXAS (June 6, 2018) /For immediate release/ —   Thunder Squadron, part of the 3rd Calvary Regiment is deployed from Fort Hood to Iraq. Located in a remote area of the country, they are working to support Iraqi Security Forces. CPT Darrel D., explained, “We are working alongside coalition partners and support Iraqi Security Forces as they continue their fight to defeat the last remnants of ISIS, providing security to the Iraqi people, and setting conditions for follow-on operations to increase long-term regional stability.”

Their remote location means they have no access to an MWR or USO. In an attempt to bolster morale, they set up a makeshift MWR in the chapel with wi-fi and 4 PCS. But the living arrangements at their location are harsh and morale remained low. CPT Darrel D. continued, “Our sleeping quarters are large tents that fit 120 troopers each. We have running water but must use porta-potties daily. We use electricity from generators.”

These soldiers really needed a pick me up and a little piece of home. OSD has happy to send a Supply Drop their way to help out.

These troops are now enjoying games, coffee, and other supplies from generous donors including Starbucks, Rip It Energy, Disgruntled Decks, FanDuel, GAEMS, and other key OSD partners.

OSD’s “Supply Drop” program has impacted hundreds of thousands of active military personnel in scores of locations around the globe. These Soldiers will return home in the Winter as members of OSD’s Texas Region, leading and participating in social, professional and service events within Killeen.
