10th Mountain Soldiers, Deployed from Fort Polk to Iraq, Enhance Day-to-Day Morale with Addition of Support from OSD
FORT POLK LOUISIANA & AUSTIN, TEXAS (April 8, 2018) /For immediate release/ — Army 10th Mountain Soldiers from Fort Polk are deployed to Iraq through the late Spring. Their living conditions are quite challenging both due to distance from the main body of troops as well as their outpost being a repurposed (and blown up) train station.
SPC Jasson M. said, “This Supply Drop will definitely help keep my guys feeling good and it would help them remember that we aren’t forgotten by the people back home thus motivating them to keep taking it day by day and remembering that we are out here doing our job and doing our part in the fight for freedom around the world. With the help of this Supply Drop it will help us mentally from defeating ourselves and it will definitely make the rest of this deployment more enjoyable thus making us more motivated for anything to come.”
The Task Force Slugger troops are constantly on the move, wearing down their gear, their minds and their bodies.
“Due to moving around so much, equipment, personal items, etc. has gotten broken, lost or used up to its entirety due to movement and not always having access to necessities. Our unit has been separated from brigade since the start of deployment and at one point even forgotten about. Our leaders do their absolute best to try to keep our heads up high and from getting complacent. We do not let each other get down or dwell on the fact that time is moving slowly.”
OSD’s “Supply Drop” program has impacted hundreds of thousands of active military personnel in scores of locations around the globe. These Airmen will return home in the Spring as members of OSD’s Southeast Region, leading and participating in social, professional and service events.
